"A major step to addressing air-pollution on Berw Road." that was the response from Cllr Heledd Fychan on receiving the news that RCT will install an air pollution monitoring scheme on Berw Road.
Berw Road has always had high levels of traffic as it is the main route to Glyncoch, Ynysybwl and Coed-y-Cwm as well as Craig-Yr-Hesg Quarry. With the closure of the White Bridge following the February 2020 floods more traffic is using the road, causing increased congestion at the junction by the Old Bridge.
Cllr Fychan continued:
"Monitoring the air quality is the first step to addressing this problem. It is obvious to local residents that there is a problem, you can just look at the UPVC windows and door frames to see how quickly they turn black from exhaust fumes. What we will now see is what this pollution is made up of and that will enable RCT to take the necessary action to safeguard the health of local people."
