Graigwen Roads and Pavements Petition

GraigwenWe, the residents of Graigwen in Pontypridd, are calling on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council to urgently address a number of issues affecting Graigwen. These include:

  1. Speeding: This is an issue that affects Graigwen Hill and also streets around the various estates, particularly Mayfield Road, Whiterock Avenue, Whiterock Drive, Whiterock Close and Mayfield Road. There have been a number of collisions and animals killed, and it is only a matter of luck that we haven't suffered a fatality. We need traffic calming measures as a matter of urgency and request that the Council shares a plan with residents on how they will deliver the changes required. We also need safe crossing points in the middle of Graigwen Hill, between the houses up from the shop to Pantygraigwen and the streets opposite.
  2. Pavements: the quality of many of the pavements are dire, with many not upgraded since the estates were built. The pavements in upper Graigwen are particularly bad and need to be renewed. We request that the Council share with residents their plan for delivering the changes needed, to improve the safety of our paths.
  3. Parking: Parking on pavements and near junctions are major issues of concern, and we would like to see the Council take a more proactive approach to stop people from doing both. More double yellow lines are also needed on the hill, to stop dangerous parking and more done to stop people from parking on pavements and forcing pedestrians into the road when walking around the area.
  4. Bus service: We urgently need a review of the bus service, so that the service is improved and the route extended to the top of Graigwen and that hours are also extended. We also need bus stops that provide shelter from the rain and urge RCT Council to work with Pontypridd Town Council to improve the one on Whiterock Avenue which provides no shelter when it rains at present due to the fact that it has no sides.

Please listen to our views and improve the safety and connectivity of our community.

The speed restrictions should also include Lanwood Road. Yes, the bus service to/from Graigwen is shocking!

The road up from Gelliwastad Grove where it meets Tyfica Road is a hazard. Vehicles are always cutting that corner whilst speeding up the hill. An accident waiting to happen there!

The pavements on the estate are on a dreadful state. We don’t want patchwork being done. as a make do attempt, but to have a complete job. I have lived up here since 1972 and they have never been done properly. Also, we have asked for sleeping policeman on various stretches to stop speeding in relation to young children crossing and the elderly and animals. This will only probably be done when it is to late!!!! Also, there are over hanging hedges on some corners, especially as you start to walk down the main hill. Very dangerous, especially, if you are trying to push a child in a pushchair!! All of the above, seriously needs to be looked at urgently!!

Not a grajgwen resident but have a daughter living in Graigwen Parc. Can only visit her if I have the car as the bus only goes to Whiterock.Feel sorry for the residents who live further up than Whiterock. What is the point of giving them a free bus pass, unless they are able to walk up the hill which is no easy task they are housebound unless they can drive.

My 70 year old mum looks after my daughter whilst I am at work. She uses the bus service and has to then push the pram from the last stop in Whiterock up the very steep hill to Graigwen Parc. I see no reason why the bus cannot continue to the top of the hill.

Speeding around the Avenue by junction to the Close (60 WRA END).

Parking a outside the Nurseries by Church House (double parking, parking on pavement, taking children out off car on roadside). And the one on Graigwen Road, where a grey van us parked, blocking the view off traffic flow…

The speed that people do on my road is so dangerous if somebody was hit they wouldn’t stand a chance.
