PLAID CYMRU SELECT YOUNG CANDIDATE TO BE NEW VOICE FOR PONTYPRIDD IN PARLIAMENT

Local Pontypridd Plaid Cymru members select Wiliam Rees, 25, to be “a fresh voice for Pontypridd” at the next General Election.

Wiliam Rees, 25, is standing as the Plaid Cymru candidate in Pontypridd for the next General Election.

Announcing his campaign, Wiliam Rees said “I want to be a fresh voice for Pontypridd in Parliament. I want to be an MP who will listen to local residents and act on their behalf.

“It's more important than ever to elect a strong group of Plaid Cymru MPs at the next election to fight for fairness for Wales. We’re the only party demanding a fairer funding deal for Wales so we can invest in the economy, NHS and schools right across Pontypridd. With a Tory wipe out on the cards, we need a strong Plaid Cymru voice in Westminster that will let Keir Starmer know he can’t take Pontypridd or Wales for granted.”

Emphasising his commitment to listening to local people, Wiliam said “I want to help build on the good work already being done by so many to make Pontypridd an even better place to live and work. Over the course of this campaign, I hope to be able to meet and listen to as many local people, organisations and business as possible about what matters to them, and how we can prioritise those issues in this campaign.”

Speaking after the announcement, Local Senedd Member and Pontypridd Town Councillor Heledd Fychan MS said Wiliam would be an excellent MP for our communities right across Pontypridd.

“I’m looking forward to supporting his campaign over the coming weeks and months. Having worked closely with Wiliam over the past few years since getting elected to the Senedd, I know he will work hard on behalf of the people of Pontypridd.

“Now more than ever we need a fresh voice for Pontypridd, and someone who will be a voice for us all in Westminster, not Westminster’s voice in Pontypridd so Wiliam has my full support.”

Supporting Wiliam’s campaign, Plaid Cymru Leader, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS, said “I’m pleased to see Wiliam selected as Plaid Cymru’s candidate in Pontypridd for the next General Election, which cannot come soon enough. He would make a great MP for Pontypridd. It would be great to see him join the team of hard-working Plaid Cymru MPs in Westminster, standing up for Pontypridd and holding the London parties feet to the fire when it comes to fighting for fairness for Wales.

“Having been born in Tonteg myself, Pontypridd is a special place for me and that’s why my first ever official visit as Plaid Cymru leader last year was to Coleg y Cymoedd in Nantgarw, alongside Heledd Fychan MS to demonstrate Plaid Cymru’s ambition to provide the best opportunities to young people in Wales.

“I know that Wiliam will work hard to stand up for local residents in seeking to improve people’s lives across Pontypridd. People should vote for Wiliam Rees and Plaid Cymru to put Pontypridd and Wales’ best interests first, keep the Tories out and stop Labour taking Wales for granted.”
